Hello Parents!
What an amazing first week of school! I could not have imagined it going any better :) We were very busy getting to know our school, our classroom and each other. This week we spent a lot of time on routines and establishing a sense of community within our class. I have to say, each of them provide something very positive and unique to our classroom.
Here are the "Essential Agreements" that your children came up with to follow throughout the school year. I am very proud of these three agreements and know they will allow us to have a wonderful year.
1.Be Caring.
2.Be Safe.
3. Be Responsible.
Next week we are diving right into the curriculum. Here is what to expect:
I.B.- "Working Together"
Reading- Identifying character and setting, and the short "a" sound.
Social Studies- "Our Great State"-GA
Phonics-Poppers (p,b,t,d,ch,j,k,g)
Math-Number line review (one more and one less), tally marks
Writing-We will begin using the First Grade checklist to write stories.
Thank you so much to those of you who provided items from our class "Wish List". Some of the items we received were bandaids (Toy Story and Princess themed) ink cartridges for our classroom printer, a soccer ball, dodgeball, and basketball for recess! We are also finding a need for emergency snacks. If you are able to send any extra items, that would be wonderful!
Please send in a picture of your child with his or her family for a special project we are doing in class. I am extending the due date to Thursday, August 16th. We will be writing stories that go along with our "Working Together" theme.
Please also check out the "Homework" tab to see what your child will be bringing home. Homework is designed to review skills taught in the classroom and should only last 10-15 minutes. Your children work very hard during the school day so our goal for homework is a quick brush up of skills.
Have a wonderful weekend! I am looking forward to another successful week and seeing you all at Open House on August 16th.
Thank you,
Mrs. Peake
