Thank you for making Orientation such a success! So many of you volunteered to chaperone our upcoming Field Trips and also offered to help our class in any future projects. We talk a lot about how we are a "team" in our classroom. We know that when we are working together we can accomplish anything. YOU are a huge part of that team. I am looking forward to continuing to work with you throughout the year.
I will be meeting with our Room Parents tomorrow morning, where we will discuss many topics. One topic will include making a sign up sheet/calendar for Mystery Reader. I cannot wait to see the students' reactions to our Mystery Readers. I know they will love it...
Here is what your child will be learning about this week:
Reading- Making predictions, Identifying sequence of events
Social Studies- Comparing our country and our state. Identifying map of the USA.
Phonics- Review Poppers. Introduce Leakers
Math- Examine class calendar, Comparing pairs of whole numbers, Read Temperature ranges.
Writing- Reread writing to self and others. Continue using the First Grade Editing Checklist.
I.B.- Working Together
*Before reading aloud to your child, please encourage them to make predictions before and during the reading. Ask them why they made their prediction. Great readers make predictions!*
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I am looking forward to another GREAT week!
Sincerely,
Jean Peake
