Oct. 26th-Oct. 30

Team Peake,

We have a spectacular week ahead of us in second grade! I enjoyed seeing several of you at the Fall Festival on Saturday. Can you believe we are nearing the end of October? Time flies when you’re having fun.

Reading:
Identifying differences between a Fact and an Opinion

Phonics:
Vowel teams (oa) and (oe)
Ex: coat, cloak, float, tiptoe, Moe, doe, oatmeal

Tip:  We will use (oa) when we hear the /O/ sound in the beginning or the middle of a word.
We will use (oe) spelling if the sound is at the end of a word "like your toe is at the end of your foot."

Red Words:
I sent home a list of words in your child’s yellow folder. Stage 1 should have been mastered in both Kindergarten and First grade (many of these words are now decodable for your second grader) and Stage 2 will be reviewed in second grade. Stage 3 is a list of new words that are being taught currently and will be covered by the end of this year. Please make sure that if a word is on the red word list that you are enforcing its correct spelling and reading at home. J There are many fun ways to practice these words if you notice they are consistently misspelled. You can use shaving cream, chalk, whiteboards, etc.

Math:
Comparing three digit numbers using <,> and =
Putting three digit numbers in order from least to greatest and greatest to least.

Writing:
Creating a Book on our own Life Cycles

Important Updates and Reminders:

Please remember to send in a nutritional snack with your child each day.

Our new specials schedule: Monday- PE, Tuesday-Art Wednesday- PE, Thursday-Music with Mr. Fleming, Friday-Music with Mr. Thompson

Each morning your child has a routine that they must follow in order to have the best possible start to their day. Please do your best to have your child at school by 7:50.

Congratulations to our principled Star Student, Jacob! We are proud of our friend as he has shown great determination this year as well as kindness towards his classmates. We also admire Jacob’s creativity as he is a fantastic artist. J Way to go, Jacob!  We look forward to learning more about what makes you so special this week.

Please remember that our Mystery Book Reports are due, Oct. 29th. I have seen many wonderful pumpkins already and cannot wait to see our kids creativity shine. J Please also have your child practice using their “presentation voice” with you for their summary.

Children will be allowed to wear their costumes to school on Friday, Oct. 30th. We will not be allowing masks or weapons of any kind. I can’t wait to see them all dressed up!
